Glastonbury is one of Earth's great focal points of human myth and religion. In legend it is the Ancient Isle of Avalon, resting place of the renowned King Arthur.
Rich with living history, the ruins of its former abbey, as well as the intact George & Pilgrim Inn, Tribunal Building, and Abbey Barn all stand testament to one of the most powerful monastic houses in mediaeval times.
Above all, as if in answer to all questions, stands the enigmatic Tor, which dominates the countryside for miles around. It looks big, and strange, and the view from its 500-foot summit is extraordinarily peaceful and special.
Ancient in ancient times, the Tor was probably made from a geological process involving the Chalice Well, a primary spring fed by a reservoir deep within Mother Earth, which has never failed to pour 25,000 gallons of iron-rich water every day.
Glastonbury is now home to around 10,001 inhabitants, a community peculiar in its bizarre diversity of belief-systems.
Its colourful High Street boasts a unique array of 'alternative' shops, cafes, restaurants, healers, diviners, musicians and artists. Spirituality in all its many and varied expressions is oddly and uniquely focused at Glastonbury, and the Christian and the Pagan alike feel the magic of a special place.
